Some definite food for thought! This slideshow from the book Hungry Planet takes a look at a week’s worth of food for families around the world. What would your week look like?
What the World Eats
I really liked this photo essay! I wish it would have given one more piece of information, though – the percentage of total income each family spends on food. From what I understand, Americans spend less on food (based on percentage of total income) than most other countries in the world.
I agree, that would have been interesting to know. I have heard that the amount spent based on percentage of income is low for Americans, and has gone DOWN over time. Hungry Planet might be a book to put on the library list!
Thanks for checking out my blog!
Hey, I think there’s actually a book out there called What the World Eats (at the library!) http://catalog.siouxlandlib.org/ipac20/ipac.jsp?session=1310E4O6842O0.1450&profile=dial&uri=link=3100007~!454266~!3100001~!3100002&aspect=Search%20Starts%20With&menu=search&ri=1&source=~!horizon&term=What+the+world+eats+%2F&index=PALLTI
Yes, the whole article is based on the book! Didn’t realize there was a copy here…might have to check it out next time I’m there!
